Snow Tires – Winter 2020

Snow tires on red car

If you have been around this blog, you know I am a fan of snow tires.  With winter approaching, it is clearly time to talk about this under utilized winter addition.  I previously read yet another story from MSN and Motor Trend detailing the benefits of snow tires over all season tires.  Follow the link to read it – or I can summarize…  Driving identical 4 wheel drive vehicles on an icy track, snow tires accelerate a little better, stop dramatically better, and go around corners dramatically better than simple, quality all season tires.

Read the MSN/Motor Trend story by following this link.

But aren’t they expensive?  You should be able to get 3-4 seasons out of a good set of snow tires, and you will keep your street tires that much longer as well – so the cost is really very little over the life of both sets of tires.  I suggest putting the tires on a set of steel rims or smaller rims offered by your cars manufacturer (see eBay for some great options), and keep the entire wheel in your garage or shed during the summer months.  This makes the swap fast, cheap, and easy at your local mechanic.

Good luck, and happy winter travels from the Levitt-Fuirst team!
